mi trabajo

I've gone from teaching at Newport Union to teaching at Harbour Elementary, I swear. (Obligatory OC reference). It's hard for me to adjust. The students have casual uniforms, and my second graders know more English than one of my 4 Eso classes last year. (I think they know more than the English teacher for aforementioned class.)

Most days I start at 10.30, Thursdays at 9.30, and I work until 16.30. I have a coffee break at 11.30, with free coffee, fruit and a merienda (snack), like jamón and pan, chorizo and pan, ali oli potatos, cookies, etc. I have a two hour break from 13.00-15.00, although the 13.00-14.00 can be used for work or preparing materials. 14.00 is a 4,50€ school lunch that I will skip on seafood days from now on. It should come as no surprise that I've already become a part of the crew that goes for café con leche after lunch.

Honestly? I prefer teaching high schoolers. I don't mind elementary school, but I prefer high schoolers. I know I'm meant to teach, and now I'm more sure about what age level.

I have an hour commute every day to and from work on the Madrid metro. I may have to look into Cercanias to see if it would be any quicker. But it's more inconvenient.

I'm adjusting to Madrid really well. I seriously think I was meant to live here.

  1. I start learning English earlier when I was 9... Today children begin before to study English, but in Spain we learn British English.
